Population Characteristics:
According to population census 2001 the total population of the upazila is 229648, of which 117116 are males and 112532 are females. The sex ratio of the uazila is 104 males per 100 females, as against 104 males per 100 females in 1991.
Growth rate:
The decadal population growth rate of population for the upazila is calculated 19.81% and annual compound growth rate is 1.82%. The decadal growth rates over the last half century are shown in following table.

Economic Activity:
In Kamalganj uazila, 28.07% of the population is below 10 years of age. Among the population of age 10 years and over 30.52% are not working 2.51 % are looking for work, 29.54% are engaged in household work and the remaining 37.43% are working. The distribution of working people shows agriculture 15.38%, industry 4.68%, business 3.63%, services 0.72%, construction 0.98%, transport and communication 1.08% and others 10.96%.
